Fans of The Witcher 2 (review) have some more monster-slaying goodness coming their way in the future. Not only has CD Projekt Red's "Version 2.0" of The Witcher 2 gone live, but the company has teased that it will be releasing more content featuring the further adventures of the titular character, Geralt of Rivia.Ever since Eurogamer 2010, CD Projekt Red has been teasing the possibility of future DLC for The Witcher 2, but representatives of the company have consistently told us that their focus was on making sure the main game was up to snuff first before announcing any future plans. To that end, CD Projekt Red has already released a couple of patches and now a major update in Version 2.0. So can fans now expect to see more DLC and/or expansion packs from CD Projekt Red?

Game designer and writer Jan Bartkowicz recently told Eurogamer, "All I can say is we're planning on releasing something. [The Witcher 2.0 is] not the last update for The Witcher 2. That's what I can assure you. We still have at least one big title ahead of us in The Witcher franchise."

In an interview with RockPaperShotgun, development director Adam Badowski further explained CD Projekt Red's view on future DLC:

"All DLC for the PC version is and will remain FREE. That’s not likely to be the story for the Xbox version, because of certain Microsoft policies that need to be followed. But on PC, once you buy our game, you don’t need to worry about any additional costs — we will provide all updates, including those featuring new content, for free. I think it’s reasonable than when you buy our product, you can expect us to service it for you quite a long time after release, though less intensively as time goes by. Any payable DLC that appears is likely to be a more classic expansion pack along the lines of, say, Baldur’s Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast. But this is a purely theoretical discussion at this point, as we have yet to confirm or even plan any official expansion packs."

This is certainly good news for PC gamers and for those who are looking for more RPG goodness. But can gamers expect a full sequel to The Witcher 2? Bartkowicz has indicated that a continuation of some kind would be in the works:

"All I can say is - outside of when the pre-production starts and finishes - with the story team we were probably in pre-production for The Witcher 3 during making The Witcher 2. Just because even while we were doing The Witcher 2 it was all about, you know, there's got to be probably something after. Of course we're not announcing anything. We cannot say, I cannot say - I don't know if it's going to be The Witcher 3 or something else that covers the story, but there's probably going to be some releases in the future."

With the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 set to arrive in the first quarter of 2012 and a possible expansion for The Witcher 2 on the horizon, it may be some time before CD Projekt Red begins production on a true sequel.

For those of you who have not yet experienced The Witcher 2, now is a good time to take the plunge as the title is for sale until October 6, 2011 on Steam for $29.90 and on GOG.com for $29.99.

The Witcher 2 is available on Windows PC and will release for the Xbox 360 in the first quarter of 2012.
