Willem Dafoe has officially joined the cast of Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls. Dafoe will be joining a cast that already includes Ellen Page, as the game's protagonist Jodie Holmes.

Dafoe will play Nathan Dawkins, a government scientist that is trying to help Jodie understand her supernatural abilities. However, there appears to be something more sinister about Dawkins' agenda, beyond just helping Jodie.

In Beyond: Two Souls' story, Jodie can see and interact with a supernatural entity, named Aiden, that has been following her nearly all her life. She and Aiden are linked in such a way that the player will have the ability to manipulate objects within given spaces.

Dafoe was rumored for the Beyond: Two Souls' cast back in June of 2012, but it was only this weekend that Quantic Dream officially confirmed his involvement. Although Dafoe's character has just been revealed, he has apparently been working on motion capture for the game for quite some time. In addition to the Willem Dafoe reveal trailer above, Sony also released a new trailer wherein Dafoe talks about his character and his experience working on the game.

If there is one thing to be said about Quantic Dream's forthcoming project it's that the game is certainly ambitious. Their last project, Heavy Rain, was a unique experience, almost like an interactive movie, and Beyond appears to build upon that foundation.

In addition to pushing the boundaries of what a game can be, Beyond is shaping up to be a project that features some top name talent. One of David Cage's main goals in game development, as outlined in his appearance at Sony's PS4 event, is to accurately capture true emotion. What better way to deliver true emotion than with accomplished actors like Page and Dafoe?
