Many eyes are carefully watching Warcraft and Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard's next moves. After a tumultuous 2021, which began with multiple employees accusing the publisher of enabling workplace harassment, and ended with Microsoft closing a deal on purchasing Activision Blizzard, the company has made headline gaming news for quite some time. Looking forward to 2022, fans are hoping to see some new content for their favorite titles.

With Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard, many were hoping to see a console version of popular MMORPG World of Warcraft. Alongside moving more Activision titles to be Xbox-exclusive, releasing PC titles on Xbox also seemed like a logical step. While there hasn't yet been any official announcement of any Warcraft titles making their way to a console platform, 2022 will be a "substantial" year for Warcraft content according to Activision Blizzard.

Revealed in its quarterly earnings report, Activision Blizzard sought to communicate with the fans of its games, outlining what will be coming to games like Overwatch, Diablo, and Warcraft in the coming months. As 2021 was a year of disappointment for many Blizzard fans, due to delays to both new entries in the Overwatch and Diablo series, the publisher is looking to excite players once more, with promises of some major content coming to Warcraft.

Blizzard promises to release 'World Of Warcraft: Shadowlands' later this year

In a section dedicated to Blizzard titles in the quarterly earnings report, Activision Blizzard tackles the news coming for fans, as Warcraft news takes up most of the space in Blizzard's update. First, the publisher reports on World of Warcraft's engagement with players, before teasing the "substantial new content" that will be coming to the Warcraft franchises which includes "new experiences" in World of Warcraft and card game Hearthstone. The former has recently seen the end of its Shadowlands expansion, and so a new modern expansion to World of Warcraft could be on the cards for 2022, though there's no official confirmation of that yet.

Something rather substantial that was mentioned though was the announcement of a Warcraft mobile title. Whether this will be like the real-time-strategy games of Warcraft's past, or something else entirely is unknown, though it was confirmed in the same quarterly earnings report that a mobile game would be arriving for the Warcraft series perhaps similar to Blizzard's other mobile entry, Diablo Immortal. With a mobile title being included in the quarterly earnings report though, it's likely that other large developments will be made to Blizzard's fantasy setting in the near future.
