The Game Rant Guide: April 2013 Edition

April Monthly Game Guide

It’s hard to believe we’re already a quarter of the way into the year. With GDC and PAX East over and E3 2013 and San Diego Comic-Con edging closer, an interesting transition is being made between current and next-generation consoles. While gamers everywhere settle in and wait for more announcements on the PlayStation 4 (specifically, what it looks like) and the dubbed “Xbox 720,” Game Rant is hard at work delivering those announcements and keeping gamers in the loop — specifically, what is coming down the pipeline in the near future!

April 2013 kicks off with Syfy show tie in and persistent MMO Defiance for Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360; and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge for PS3 and Xbox 360. The following week, a classic RTS epic comes to Steam, albeit for Windows only: Age of Empires II: HD Edition. On April 14th, Star Wars: The Old Republic sees its first expansion released, titled Rise of the Hutt Cartel, available for Windows. On the 16th, DC superheroes clash like never before in Injustice: Gods Among Us, for PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. On the 23rd, Dead Island: Riptide surfs and slaughters its way to Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360. Star Trek ventures forth onto Windows, PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 23rd, not long before Star Trek Into Darkness hits the big screen. XCOM: Enemy Unknown comes to Mac OS on April 25th, with an iOS version slated for Summer 2013.

  1. only game this month i want is Injustice, looks so damn good. i was thinking about skipping day 1 buy and getting it cheaper but the content had just bought me in.

they have so many things in this game which im so happy they did considering the rich history DC has including a story mode which is really unheard of in fighters. only MK9 have done a proper story and surprise surprise the same devs made this XD.

cant wait for the demo this week. Batman, Wonder Woman and i think its was Lex are the demo characters.

  2. I will try the demo, but Im skipping this month..

  3. If the demo proves amazing then injustice for sure! Honestly that was my only want this month anyway. Star Trek is a rental though.

I justice will hopefully be fun.

    • I’m preordering the Star Trek game – more for the co-op play with my best Trekkie buddy than anything, but the game is actually looking fairly decent (I know a movie tie-in looking good??!?? blasphemy).

The last good movie tie-in I played was the Wolverine game maybe we’re due for another?

      • Definelty possible. I do think it looks good and if I had the money I woul probably pick it up but I’m sadly limited to one per month for now. So injustice will probably e the one for me. Star Trek is looking good though.

  4. Im sitting here thinking thank God I don’t have anything to buy this month…I think I click on the monthly game guide read down Injustice april 16th. HOLY S*** WHAT THE F*** that comes out this month. (sigh) I was really looking forward to not spending my money this month.

  5. Anyone else picking up Defiance and watching the show?

The idea that my actions in the MMO (I’ve never played one before) affect the show and vice versa really has me intrigued. So much so I preordered the game.

Combat a-la Mass Effect (3rd Person shooter with Scifi elements – powers etc.) and a persistent world – color me curious.

Didn’t hurt that my girl wants to watch Defiance too.

    • I pre-ordered it too. All the gameplay footage I’ve seen so far looks promising, so I can’t wait for it to arrive tomorrow. Hopefully the TV show will be good too.

  6. my wallet can get some air until lego marvel and splinter cell blacklist come out since nothing from now and then really interests me (i don’t play exclusives).

  7. The ones I am most looking forward to this month are:

    Pandora’s Tower
Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
    Soul Sacrifice

There are 8 others that I that I would like to get, but those three are the ones for now.

  8. Finally injustice is almost here, i will see what red box has to offer in rentals but injustcie is the only game this month I am looking forward to. If red box has riptide I may rent it.

  9. Injustice HELP – Seeking Injustice Video

I have just spent more time then I’d like to admit tyring to find an INJUSTICE video I saw that I thought woul dbe at the top of a Google search on INJUSTIE video. This video was what iwoudl call an extended story trailer or opening cinematic. I do not remeber there being any actual game play footage. It was a few minutes long and it showed what I thought was a final battle scene with the key players on both sides battling it out. It had super mna, wonder woman, the joker, Lex Luthor, Batman, Green Lantern and a few others. Several died during that trailer although I can;t recall who exactly but I believe it ended with Lex Luthor saying this is what happened to my world and I need your help to stop it. It was like as if this was a Lex Luthro from an alternate reailty in which Superman and some others took control of teh panet and a few heros tried to fight back but lost and now Lex was in either an alternate reality or he tarvbelled to the past (before the even happened that cause it all) and was trying to convince the Heros to help him prevent it. Does this sound at all famialir and or does anyone know what this trailer/video is caled?

    Thanks

    • I’m pretty sure you are describing the opening cinematic for DC Universe Online, not Injustice. The DCU Online game came out about 2 years ago.
