Uncharted Golden Abyss Longer Than Uncharted 3

As we lead up to the launch of the PlayStation Vita, Sony continues to boast of how the handheld will offer PS3-like experiences on the go. It seems that claim isnt just a bunch of marketing buzz words, as the upcoming Vita launch title Uncharted: Golden Abyss is said to be longer than Uncharted 3.

According to developer Sony Bend, Uncharted: Golden Abyss will last approximately 10+ hours, which is just a bit longer than the 8-9 hour campaign of Uncharted 3. Players can expect to see roughly two hours of cutscenes in the game, as well.

The team at Sony Bend is dedicated to making a game that is on par with the PS3 Uncharted titles, which essentially means those 10+ hours of the single player campaign probably won't just be filler to make the game longer. Uncharted 3's campaign was already a decent length, which makes it quite a feat that the handheld launch title will be even lengthier.

"We tried to focus on the kinds of things that read well on a 5-inch screen versus a 50-inch screen. Story for example: we have over two hours of cinematics in a game that is 10+hours long, so story is very important to us, just like it is on the [PS3] console."

"A driving narrative that makes you care what happens next, that compels you to get to the next chapter... that kind of experience is possible no matter what kind of platform you are on. I’m sure all Vita developers would tell you that we’re just scratching the surface of what this device can do.  I’m really excited for what we’re going to see in the next few years."

For those unfamiliar with Bend's work, they are probably most famous for their PSP Syphon Filter titles, and Resistance: Retribution. While I can't speak for the former, Resistance: Retribution was just as good as the PS3 Resistance titles, and added plenty to the series mythology. Simply put, this game is in good hands.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is expected to release in North America alongside the PlayStation Vita on February 22nd, 2012.
