Probably one of the best games to make a motion picture out of, Uncharted will be coming to the big screen and it will do so under the direction of David O. Russell (The Fighter, Three Kings) under the Columbia Pictures banner. The film will be produced by Avi Arad, Charles Roven, and Alex Gartner. A script was originally penned by Kyle Ward, but was abandoned when Ward was contractually obligated to write a different film and couldn't meet the time constraints. There is no word on a release date yet for the film or any casting choices.

Obviously, there has been nothing but a long line of videogame-to-film adaptations that have worked out very poorly. Most recently was the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time adaptation, the most recent Resident Evil film, and who could forget Super Mario Bros with thespian Bob Hoskins as Mario? However, with some very decent talent coming on board to direct the film, which is nothing but an action/adventure fan's dream, I maintain a cautious optimism.

If you haven't played Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, you are truly doing yourself a disservice by missing out on one of the best action games released in quite a long time.

The common problems about adapting any game (or comic) property to the big screen is maintaining loyalty to source material and pleasing fans. Sometimes a production company might not be able to acquire rights at all for a property, but there are ways to get around that. With a property like Uncharted though, it's very much the kind of experience that screams "summer blockbuster" to me, and if it's approached in that kind of way with the screenplay, I think it could have the potential to no longer associate videogames with bad movie adaptations. If Columbia really wanted to make this the videogamer's dream movie, they would do well to cast Nathan Fillion in the role of Nathan Drake.

What would you guys want to see in the Uncharted film?
