Uncharted 4 Boxart Header

The Uncharted series has become a staple for PlayStation gamers. Since 2007, the Indiana Jones-esque character, Nathan Drake, has been traveling the world, solving ancient puzzles and killing mercenaries, all in an effort to uncover some great treasure.

However, it looks like Mr. Drake's time as treasure hunter may be coming to an end with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, at least according to a recent tweet by Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann. In preparation for E3 2015, Druckmann stated on Twitter that a large poster of Uncharted 4's Nathan Drake hanging over the entrance to the Los Angeles Convention Center has the treasure hunter "looking mighty good for his last E3."

Many gamers already assumed this would be Nathan Drake's last hurrah, considering the title of the newest Uncharted game: A Thief's End. That title seems to point to an end to the Uncharted series, thought it's hard to believe Naughty Dog would be ending the franchise, considering it's still wildly popular.

Granted, the developer's recent post-apocalyptic thriller, The Last of Us, is a powerhouse game that's sure to spur at least a couple sequels; but still, why end a good thing? The Uncharted franchise seems to be only growing in strength, which seems like a bad time to end it.

Of course, Druckmann's tweet could just be pointing to an end to Nathan Drake's adventures, not necessarily the entire Uncharted series. In fact, his cheeky little devil emoticon at the end of the tweet hints that there's something secret afoot. It's possible that while this is the end of Drake's time as the Uncharted hero, there may be a new one in the works. After all, Drake is getting older, so maybe it's time to introduce a new, younger protagonist who can carry on Drake's legacy.

It'll be interesting to see what happens at this year's E3, and what is revealed once Uncharted 4 releases in 2016. Hopefully we'll get some hints as to the fate of Nathan Drake when Sony holds their press conference on Monday, June 15.
