With Gamescom 2011 in full swing, Sony decided to bring out one of its biggest weapons, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, to the masses in the form of a new trailer. While Naughty Dog has previously stated that Drake's next adventure would be the most realistic to date, this video shows that the studio will still integrate the over-the-top action sequences for which the series is known. In fact, the admonition from Naughty Dog that no character is safe from permanent harm may make you fear slightly for Drake himself in this video. While the beginning of the trailer demonstrates the relationship between Drake and Elena is still strong, the rest shows Drake doing the insane by jumping on the landing gear of a moving plane. Drake has already conquered the speeding train, so combat on a plane was the next logical progression.  Check out the Indiana Jones inspired action below:

Naughty Dog certainly has a funny notion of what is realistic, but it's doubtful too many gamers will care so long as the action is fun. To be fair, the sequence aboard the plane is slightly more realistic than the flight sequence shown in the newest Saints Row 3 trailer. Still, Drake shows again that he must have the strongest hands in the known universe.

What will be interesting to see is how Naughty Dog's introduction of stereoscopic 3D to the Uncharted series will fare, especially with intense action sequences such as the one shown in the video. The developer is on the record that its 3D features will be so impressive that Uncharted 3 will sell 3D TVs. While we always appreciate it when developers try to bring a new experience to the table, 3D integration in an action-packed title like Uncharted 3 may be mind-blowing for all the wrong reasons. In our experience with 3D gaming, we have found that the effect can be impressive at times, but may also cause eye fatigue and headaches during long play sessions. Not to mention, 3D gaming on the consoles can cause a frame rate hit.

Let us know what you think about the newest trailer and whether you plan to take on Drake's enemies in 3D.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on November 1, 2011.
