Game developer Ubisoft has decided to Go Green in its initiative to end the production of physical instruction manuals packaged with its games. This act will officially start this Fall with the release of Shaun White Skateboarding. All physical game manuals will be replaced with digital in-game equivalents. This new initiative only applies to games for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles (probably excluding the Wii to keep its ease of accessibility to the Wiis broad market of non-gamers) .

Ubisoft states that the new in-game manuals will offer the player "easier and more intuitive access to game information" while providing them with "a more robust manual".

Ubisoft claims that producing one ton of paper used in its game manuals wastes approximately two tons of wood from 13 trees, containing a net energy of 28 million BTU's, greenhouse gases adding up to over 6,000 lbs of CO2, and wastewater of about 15,000 gallons. Ubisoft has partnered itself with Technimark, Inc. releasing "the industry's most environmentally responsible DVD case" for  its future PC titles in North America, begining with Splinter Cell Conviction for PC on April 30.

President of Ubisoft North America, Laurent Detoc, stated that "Ubisoft is often recognized for making great games, but it's a special privilege to be the industry leader at saving trees".

"Eco-friendly initiatives are important to the global community and introducing in-game digital manuals on Xbox 360 and PS3 is just the latest example of Ubisoft's ongoing commitment to being a more environmentally conscious company."
