[Update: October 2011 – Activision unveils War for Cybertron sequel as Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.]
Transformers: War for Cybertron helped reestablish the Transformers franchise in many gamers’ minds, despite a few flaws. Fans of the game and Hasbro franchise will be glad to hear that the sequel, Transformers: War for Cybertron 2 has been confirmed for a 2012 release.
During their investor conference last week, Hasbro stated how they were very pleased with the sales of War for Cybertron and that the sequel will launch sometime in 2012. SVP and General Manager of Digital Media & Gaming for Hasbro, Mark Blecher, had this to say about the game:
“This is the most highly-rated, critical success of any game that’s had the Hasbro brand yet and we’re looking forward to a sequel in 2012,”
While the game is confirmed, the developer isn’t. The developer of the original, High Moon Studios is expected to take the reigns of the sequel, however this information wasn’t confirmed during the
In Game Rant’s review of War for Cybertron we discussed how game had some technical issues, though these didn’t take away from the solid single and multiplayer modes — especially Escalation.
Another Transformers title has also been confirmed, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is videogame based on the upcoming movie sequel to Revenge of the Fallen. This game is expected to be released in 2011 along side the movie release and no developer has been confirmed. The history of movie licensed videogames has been a dark one, though gamers should remain hopeful. Maybe Dark of the Moon will turn out to be an awesome title. Maybe.
