Transformers: War for Cybertron brought gamers and long-time fans of the Hasbro toyline back to the roots of the alien cybernetic beings, to the early parts of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, before they came to earth forming the story of the classic '80s cartoon.

The best part of War for Cybertron, is that Activision and High Moon Studios brought a solid game to the market, something that was very much needed after terrible video game adaptations based on the first two movies of Michael Bay's blockbuster trilogy of Transformers films. Now comes the confirmation that High Moon is working on the sequel, tiled Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

This should come as no surprise since last November, Hasbro revealed in an investors call that they were looking for War for Cybertron 2 in the fall of 2012. Activision confirmed today that the game is titled Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and it'll take the cover of the November 2011 issue of Game Informer, where more details of the game will be revealed.

A brief synopsis reveals that despite the Autobot campaign ending of War for Cybertron showing the Optimus Prime commissioning the Ark to transport remaining Autobot survivors way from their home while he and his crew stay to defend, the game will take place mostly, if not entirely on Cybertron again so we can expect similar character and aesthetic designs. On the flip side, the Decepticon campaign had Megatron and co. infecting the core of Cybertron with Dark Energon.

TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON takes fans through the final, darkest hours of the civil war between the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS as they fight for control of their dying planet, ultimately leading to their storied exodus from home.

War for Cybertron was a solid, albeit simple and repetitive game. Limitations in weapons, characters and environments that held back what could have been a great game and we hope the sequel rectifies these aspects and builds upon its solid foundation. There is an insurmountable amount of potential for the sequel and we hope it leads to a franchise that will continue on Earth.

After developing Transformers: Dark of the Moon for Activision, another crappy movie tie-in, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron needs to represent a return to form for High Moon Studios.

What characters would you like to see added to the game this time around?

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in fall 2012.
