Transformers Fall of Cybertron Making Of Gameplay Trailer

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron looks awesome, there’s no doubt about that. But beyond the flashy trailers and cool character reveals is developer High Moon Studios’ dedication to create one of the most unique gameplay experiences around, as facilitated by main characters that have two forms of combat.

Though it was touched upon briefly in the most recent trailer, the gameplay in Fall of Cybertron is the key to making a successful Transformers game and High Moon knows it. In a follow-up to that gameplay trailer’s release, Activision has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes trailer that features High Moon talking up Fall of Cybertron and all that it has to offer.

Some of the most important things to understand about Fall of Cybertron lay with how the game plans to top War for Cybertron, High Moon’s extremely well-received breakout Transformers title. For War for Cybertron a lot of fans’ expectations rested not with the gameplay or the story, but simply with whether or not any developer was capable of delivering a solid Transformers game.

After two pretty poor movie tie-in titles, a lot of the luster of the Transformers property had been lost, at least as far as video games were concerned. But War for Cybertron changed all that, and proved that it was possible for a game starring Transformers to be good — and now Fall of Cybertron wants to prove that a Transformers game can be great.

This time around there’s going to be much more to take in as the Decepticons and Autobots battle for control of Cybertron, but the key experience should be familiar to any High Moon or Transformers fan. One of the most interesting things High Moon is exploring, as they outline in the trailer, is Optimus Prime’s role as the leader of the Autobots and one of the strongest Transformers around. That idea was relayed in War for Cybertron a tiny bit, but for this next entry it appears to be taken to the next level.

There’s a lot to take in when looking at Transformers: Fall of Cybertron without having played it, but even that feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface. From varied combat to compelling storylines, High Moon Studios is definitely gearing up for another winner.

How is Transformers: Fall of Cybertron looking to you thus far? Are you more excited to play as the Decepticons and control Bruticus, or assume the role of Optimus Prime?

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron releases August 28, 2012 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
