As one of the shining moments amidst a pretty lackluster 2011 Spike Video Game Awards, the new teaser trailer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron got gamers talking. Though it will take a lot more than a Grimlock reveal and some moody music to win fans back after the abysmal Dark of the Moon, developer High Moon Studios has clearly shown their headed in the right direction.

But there’s an element to these types of reveals that largely goes unnoticed, seeing just how all the pieces that make a compelling teaser trailer come together. Thankfully, a new behind-the-scenes video has been released in which High Moon and Digital Domain (the folks that put together the trailer) talk about the iconic moments and the tone they were going for.

It’s hard to say that music isn’t important in a teaser trailer, but it certainly can help send a piece over the top -- just look at the Gears of War ‘MadWorld’ trailer or any of the top tier trailers that have released in the past five years. Much like the Gears trailer’s tone was set by the music, so too was this trailer.

High Moon was looking to set the mood --  that this is a Cybertron where all hope is lost, but the Autobots aren’t ready to give up just yet. It’s contained within the music, but even more so in the interactions of the characters. The interaction between Optimus and Bumblebee is something that High Moon really prided themselves on, and completely sums up where the Autobots’ War for Cybertron is at.

As High Moon notes, this teaser trailer barely scratches the surface of the cool stuff the developer has in store for fans of both their previous game(s) and the TV/Film property. If that means more Dinobots, or just more Transformers characters in general then we say bring it on.

What was the most striking thing about the Transformers: Fall of Cybertron trailer for you? Did anything about the trailer feel off?
