Transformers Age of Extinction Tie-In Game

Fear not Autobots and Decepticons, it appears there will be a tie-in game for Transformers: Age of Extinction, the latest blockbuster sequel from director Michael Bay. Although no announcement has been made, Hasbro, the toy company that owns the Transformers property, has applied for a video-game related trademark early last week.

No developer or publisher is listed with the trademark, but last we had heard Activision was in charge of Transformers video games. And they had set High Moon Studios as the Transformers developer.

Transformers fan-site Seibertron has the scoop, discovering the trademark from the US Trademark and Patent Office. The site also found this brief blurb included with the trademark application, which explicitly reveals its connection to a video game of some sort:

Interactive entertainment software, namely, computer game software, computer game programs, computer game cartridges, computer game discs; interactive multimedia computer game programs; downloadable game software for use in connection with computers, communication devices and mobile telephones; pre-recorded laser and video disc featuring an animated cartoon series.

While not a total surprise, the news of this Transformers: Age of Extinction tie-in game will likely be met with mixed feelings. Activision’s last Transformers tie-in game, Dark of the Moon, was a major step back when compared to its non tie-in predecessor, War for Cybertron, despite both games being made by the same developer.

On the bright side, though, there are reasons to be excited for Age of Extinction, namely the appearance of the Dinobots. Yes, the Dinobots were featured quite prominently in High Moon Studios’ Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t eager to see them again.

Still, it’s hard not to be cautiously optimistic about any tie-in game, whether it’s Transformers, Spider-Man, or even The Avengers. Getting a game out in time to coincide with a film’s release typically forces a developer to cut corners, or at least the end product suggests that is the case.

As far as Age of Extinction goes, we don’t have a solid confirmation the game is in development only that Hasbro has filed a video game trademark. However, if they do plan on releasing a Transformers: Age of Extinction tie-in then it will likely hit alongside the feature film next summer.

Are you up for a Transformers: Age of Extinction tie-in game? Would you like to see High Moon Studios take up development or a different company?

  1. I thought the title was supposed to be Transformers: Age of Ultron? Wasn’t Ultron this giant robot enemy of the Transformers or something that’s supposed to be in the movie….

    • Ultron’s a villain from the marvel universe

    • The Avengers 2 is titled Age of Ultron because Ultron is a robot villain in the Marvel Universe. The character you’re thinking of is Unicron, a giant planet transformer who apparently isn’t in this film (unless they are hiding him for a surprise appearance). You must have mixed up the Ages mate LOL :D

  2. If there’s any movie tie-in game I want, it’s Avengers 2.

    • A good Avengers game would be awesome!
