This article contains spoilers for Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

As Venom: Let There Be Carnage continues to collect box office revenue all over the world, its star Tom Hardy is already moving on to new things, one of which may or may not be related to Spider-Man judging from the actor’s cryptic social media posts.

Ever since the first Venom movie came out, it’s been known that it’s just a matter of time before Sony pits Eddie Brock and Peter Parker against each other as part of the rebranded Sony's Spider-Man Universe. However, after seeing Let There Be Carnage's mid-credits scene and the fact that Spider-Man: No Way Home possibly ends the Tom Holland era, such an encounter could be the next card on the deck for both characters.

Do not count on Hardy to be the one delivering such news though, at least not on purpose, because the actor has again posted a picture featuring Spider-Man and Venom only to delete it rather quickly, thus enticing further rumors for the new Spider-Man movie. This is not the first time Hardy has alerted fans due to his puzzling activity. Only a month ago, a photo of him wearing a Spider-Man: No Way Home hat fueled theories that he and Venom would get a Spider-Man cameo.

Hardy has talked about his own personal desire for Venom to munch on Spider-Man, and his special Halloween post featured exactly that before being taken down just a few hours later. Although Marvel and Sony tend to stay tight-lipped on such matters, spoilers are often unavoidable and sometimes help boost hype for a movie, which has been the case for No Way Home.

How that eventual crossover would unfold is an entirely different matter that writers will have to accommodate for, as both Venom films lean more on a 2000s superhero style while the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy obviously borrows more from the Marvel Studios formula. Despite critics and general audiences generally preferring Spider-Man, the money does spill both ways, since the revenue generated by the two Venom movies has far exceeded expectations.

Regardless of Hardy's true intent, after Let There Be Carnage, Venom is officially fair game for Spider-Man and vice-versa for years to come. Even if Marvel is currently riddled with Phase Four delays right now, fortunately, things are playing out much different in the video game universe, since Spider-Man and Venom are bound to face off much sooner before Wolverine joins the PS5’s own multiverse.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now playing in theaters.
