It’s been less than two weeks since Spike TV announced Spike VGX 2013, their new online-only awards show/video game extravaganza, and already the list of planned announcements is growing. This year’s latest show promises to be bigger, longer, and more comprehensive than years past, but it’s still, at its heart, a mini-E3.
With that in mind, we bring the news that Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall will make an appearance at VGX 2013 with a few surprises in tow. The mech-focused shooter has been gaining a tremendous amount of buzz since its E3 2013 debut, and is one of the hottest new titles for 2014, so it only makes sense Respawn announce something new at the show.
The tease came at the Xbox One launch event early this morning, where Geoff Keighley tweeted that big surprises and news will come from Respawn Entertainment. While it’s unclear what exactly Respawn plans to announce, anything Titanfall-related will surely suffice.
Respawn Community Manager further teased the Spike VGX 2013 announcement saying that the developer plans to bring “something new” for fans. Our fingers are crossed that Respawn might introduce a new mech type for Titanfall, since thus far we’ve only seen one, maybe two, different options.
It starts with Titanfall but it doesn’t end there — gamers should expect plenty of big announcements on December 7th, when the Spike VGX 2013 show streams live at 3PM PST. Past years have shown that Spike’s awards show can be a premiere platform from which major developers can announce their latest games. VGAs past have seen the likes of Skyrim, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and Mass Effect 3 grace their stage for the very first time.
In addition to a premiere Mecca, Spike VGX 2013 will also do some new things this year, like feature in-depth developer interviews and special “panels” about upcoming games. It’s still a little unclear at this point how all that will work, but it sounds interesting in theory.
Regardless, Titanfall is only the first of many. Expect more Spike GX 2013 teases in the coming days and weeks, as the video game world prepares for the show.
What Titanfall announcement would you like to see at Spike VGX 2013? What games do you hope make an appearance at the show?
Spike VGX 2013 will stream on several online outlets on December 7, 2013 at 3PM PST.
