In 2014, newly formed developer Respawn Entertainment released their very first game: a multiplayer first person shooter named Titanfall. Made available for the relatively new Xbox One as well as the Xbox 360 and PC, Titanfall was one of the most highly anticipated games of last year.

In November 2014, 8 months after the game's initial release, Respawn Entertainment announced that Titanfall had at that point seen 7 million unique users across all platforms. Accompanied by EA's announcement that the game was the best-selling new IP for Xbox One, the futuristic first-person shooter was undoubtedly a huge success and was a huge selling point for the console.

Now, Respawn Entertainment founder and CEO Vince Zampella has announced on Twitter that the best-selling game has hit the 10-million mark, though he didn't specify whether the figure represents copies sold or total number of players.

The Twitter announcement includes a picture of a party at the Respawn Entertainment office, showing the Titanfall team celebrating the huge milestone. Today, Titanfall is more available to players than ever, available free for Xbox One via EA Access as well as on PC using Origin Game Time. On top of this, earlier this year, Microsoft and Respawn Entertainment made all DLC free to users in an attempt to unify its player base and keep the game populated.

Titanfall has also been confirmed to have a sequel in the works, which is likely to release before spring 2017 . Zampella has announced that the currently unnamed Titanfall 2 will be released across current generation platforms, meaning that PlayStation users will also be able to battle it out in giant titans upon release. Bad news for Xbox 360 and PS3 users, however, as the game will only release on the newer Xbox One and PS4 consoles, as well as on PC.

There's currently some speculation about which direction Titanfall 2 will take the series, whether it will be changing things up by way of becoming a third-person exploration game or whether it will introduce a single-player campaign along with its popular multiplayer game modes. Respawn COO Dusty Welsh has previously stated that the team would certainly not rule out adding a single-player campaign to the sequel but the latest comments from Zampella suggest that fans should probably not hold their breath. Speaking with CVG, the founder of Respawn Entertainment stated:

"There’s nothing wrong with a single-player experience. They should exist and they do exist and I would work on one. But doing one with this feels almost like taking a step backwards"

While many have criticized the lack of single-player content in Titanfall, it's understandable to want to keep aspects of a game the same when developing a sequel. First and foremost, the developers want to appeal to the fan base who loved it in the first place. Titanfall 2 will most likely see a similar style of multiplayer campaign mode as the first game but with a more polished and customizable online experience.

Titanfall is available now for PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
