While an easy case could be made for why a dozen or so last-gen games should make the jump to current-gen platforms, the discussion ultimately comes down to visuals. If the game looks even the slightest bit impressive on old hardware, one can only imagine how it would look with a little extra power under the hood.
One such game that seemed to be at the top of everyone's list as a must-remake was Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, which admittedly looked gorgeous running on the PS3. However, once a PS4 version was confirmed in the form of The Last of Us Remastered, we began to imagine how much better the game will look.
Well, imagine no longer as the first teaser trailer for The Last of Us Remastered has arrived, confirming prior suspicions that this game would get a serious boost from next-gen hardware. Check out the footage at the top of the post and then read on.
Strangely, what's most impressive about this trailer for The Last of Us Remastered is not how crisp or clean the game looks — although that is true — but rather how the game's art appears a lot more stylized than it did on last-gen. Not to mention how the 60fps frame rate gives the scene a more cinematic feel.
While many figured the power of the PS4 would help The Last of Us take on a more realistic look, it appears the next-gen console has allowed Naughty Dog to do something completely different. In a way, they have reinforced the game's personality not through realism but through more detailed textures.
Now that the cat is out of the bag (a.k.a. Sony has confirmed this PS4 port), hopefully Naughty Dog has more than just a short teaser on the way for gamers to show them just how great The Last of Us Remastered looks on new hardware. Still, for a brief appetizer, this first footage is mighty impressive.
