The Last Of Us Remastered Price Drop Refund

While the PS3 may have started its life on a weaker note, by the end of the generation there’s no denying that eventually found its place. One title that showcased its power and is universally viewed as one of the strongest titles of the generation is The Last of Us. For this reason alone, the release of The Last of Us: Remastered on PS4 came as something of a no-brainer. Despite the fanfare surrounding this re-release though, it has recently drawn some ire.

Beginning with speculation that owners of the PS3 version of the game would receive a discount on The Last of Us: Remastered, the value inherent in this re-release has been brought into question by many gamers. Despite this, the initial $60 price tag didn't seem to be scaring off next-gen gamers looking for a way to show off their new hardware. With the release drawing near though, Sony recently dropped the price of the pre-order to a more manageable $50.

Unsurprisingly, gamers who bought into the product early on PSN for the higher price rightfully felt slighted by this switch. As with any other issue arising in the internet age, many of those pre-orderers took to the internet to vent their grievances. One gamer in particular got the attention of Adam Boyes, VP of Publisher and Developer Relations at PlayStation who addressed the issue on Twitter.

While there is no word yet as to whether $50 was initially intended to be the price tag for The Last of Us: Remastered or if this is simply a change of mind, it’s good to see that refunds are being provided to early adopters. Adam Boyes states that the refunds should be processed for users automatically. At this point, Boyes is unsure as to whether the refund will be in the form of funds on the PSN or refunded back to the user's credit card.

This price drop could very well be Sony’s way of further incentivizing the purchase for PS3 owners of the game who are maintaining at least a passing interest in the remastered edition of the game. With the inclusion of the "Left Behind" DLC among others, this has definitely become a more enticing package for newcomers and returning survivors alike. With over 6 million sales of the original, this incentivizing could be essential to the remastered edition's success.

From its influence on Uncharted 4 to the possibility of a movie based on the game, it's clear that The Last of Us has a long and bright future in the industry. If the trailer for its remastered edition is any indication, with the evolution of console technology, it will definitely be interesting to see where the series goes for its next iteration.

Do you think $50 is a more fair price for The Last of Us: Remastered? Where would you like to see Naughty Dog go with the series’ next iteration?
