The Last of Us Sales Million Copies Record

During every console generation transition, there are always a few previous-gen games that consumers hope they'll get the chance to revisit on their shiny next-gen machines. With the absence of backwards compatibility on the PS4 and Xbox One, the eighth generation is no different.

In the past, games like Halo and Shadow of the Colossus have been brought back to life with HD remakes, but even though it may be fresh in players' minds, any list of PS3 candidates for a PS4 overhaul would have to include The Last of Us. Despite Naughty Dog's previous statement that the company had no interest of creating a remastered version of 2013's game of the year contender, the company isn't ruling out a PS4 port just yet.

Naughty Dog's community strategist Eric Monacelli's statements regarding The Last of Us on PS4 may have sounded pretty definitive back in October, but his recent reply to a question on the OPM UK blog has a more... hopeful tone.

The Naughty Dog strategist's reply shifted focus to the upcoming Uncharted project, but didn't rule out the possibility of a PS4 port for The Last of Us.

"We're just getting our Naughty Dog engine up and running on PS4 as we work on the next Uncharted project...

"We will see what the future brings! :)"

The Last of Us Alternate Ending

It's nowhere near a confirmation or announcement, but it's better than nothing for next-gen horror fans who have been searching for a glimmer of hope. We're happy to see Naughty Dog dedicating the majority of its resources to new projects, but there's no denying that an HD remake of The Last of Us would be hard to resist. The cinematic gameplay was stunning to begin with on the PS3 and it seems likely that the game would only be more gorgeous (and upsetting) after harnessing the PS4's power.

The remainder of the press conference focused on the upcoming next-gen Uncharted game and the new The Last of Us DLC, Left Behind. The short trailer for the add-on content revealed that the DLC will take place while Ellie is at a military boarding school in the Boston quarantine zone, prior to the events of the main campaign.

As more and more consumers get their hands on next gen consoles, what are your picks for the games that most deserve a port to the new systems? Is it ever too soon to revisit old classics? Sound off in the comments.
