Everybody knows what it's like to be at the end of one's wits, nerves, and various other measures of unpleasantness. Even hunky former Supernatural stars experience that sort of surreal night where it's 3 a.m. and somehow they're still soldiering on. That seems to be the case with a certain new member of the crew in Amazon Prime's The Boys, and he picked a rather visceral way to let everyone know.

Jensen Ackles, known for his role as Dean Winchester on The CW's recently concluded Supernatural, certainly perked up a fair few ears when he joined up with The Boys to play Soldier Boy in the show's upcoming 3rd season. The show prides itself on being a particularly gritty take on the superhero genre, so it should come as no surprise that it tends to go just as hard behind the scenes as it does on the small screen. But maybe Ackles wasn't exactly keen on that part of the deal.

The charming actor with the almost supernaturally low voice shared a lovely little picture on Instagram to give fans a little taste of the madness that goes into bringing the super violent series to life. Featuring two shots of a weary looking and shirtless Ackles glaring and screaming at the camera, the pictures are nothing if not evocative. Looks like he'll fit right in alongside all the power mad supes, including the 3 other newcomers coming to The BoysPlus, based on the caption, he seems to have the perfect late night taste in music.

"Late night filming. 3am," he said in the post. "Listening to [Tool] may not be the best thing to put me to bed. Or is it? Just tryin to cope with s***." The replies even held a little bonus as well, with his Supernatural costar Jared Padalecki commenting "Great. Now I'm gonna have nightmares." Meanwhile, the official Instagram page for The Boys added "standing above the crowd, he had a voice that was strong and loud, we'll miss him."

While the comment from The Boys' account was clearly just a rather appropriate line from the Tool song "Eulogy," it's possible it may also be alluding to Soldier Boy's ultimate fate on the show. His main character traits are his cowardice and naivete, and he spends a lot of time in the comics sucking up to more confident and powerful supes like Homelander in order to claw his way up in the world. Now that's the sort of character who seems bound to meet a sloppy end, particularly on a show that promises an upcoming season that's 3 times bloodier than its predecessors.

So clearly Ackles has the energy needed for this role, or at least for the shot itself. Whether or not he's got the right stuff for a superpowered wimpy strong guy like Soldier Boy has yet to be seen, but either way, it's sure to be an entertaining watch.

The Boys season 3 is currently filming, and hopes to release sometime in 2021.
