The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games reveals the trailer for 7 Days to Die, a new survival zombie game that's being developed in a collaboration with The Fun Pimps.

With a second season of Game of Thrones in the pipeline, the development of three new episodes for Minecraft: Story Mode, the highly-anticipated launch of The Walking Dead: Season 3 this year, and the scheduled Summer launch of its Batman adaptation, 2016 is already shaping up to be a very busy year for Telltale Games. But after revealing yet another new game today, it appears that The Walking Dead developer's 2016 just got even busier.

A new trailer for a new open-world survival game titled 7 Days to Die was unveiled today by the developer's publishing branch, Telltale Publishing. After some speculation that this new project from Telltale Games was one of its new unannounced original IP, it turns out that this new game is being developed by The Fun Pimps in a publishing collaboration with Telltale Publishing. 7 Days to Die is set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by the undead, and is described as a "unique combination of first person shooter, survival horror, tower defense, and role-playing games." The game will also feature many mechanics found in open-world games, such as crafting, looting, and exploration.

Interestingly, rather than showcase any gameplay or graphical demonstrations that's typical of video game trailers, the trailer for 7 Days to Die is essentially a two minute live-action short film featuring a bearded man – presumably the protagonist – struggling to survive against the elements and some zombies. For those wanting to watch the reveal trailer for 7 Days to Die, check it out right here.

While 7 Days to Die was only revealed today, it appears that the game has been in the works for quite some time. We actually first caught wind of the game's existence back in August 2014, when an early alpha version of the game was released for Windows, Mac, and Linux machines. Since then, nothing was heard about 7 Days to Die until today, presumably because the development team has been hard at work at porting the game over to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In addition to the reveal trailer, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will be glad to know that 7 Days to Die will have a number of console-only features. While Telltale is expected to announce more information in the coming weeks, what we know so far is that the console version of the game will add a new multiplayer mode that supports local split-screen play. Post-launch DLC is also planned, but the details for that will also be announced later.

Currently, not much is known about developer The Fun Pimps or the upcoming 7 Day to Die, and it remains to be seen on how well the game plays. But given that Telltale has had much success with its own post-apocalyptic Walking Dead series, the developer clearly saw something special in this project. With Telltale's reputation for quality games, let's give this new post-apocalyptic zombie game the benefit of the doubt for now, at least until we get some concrete gameplay footage.

7 Days to Die is scheduled for launch in June this year for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
