Game of Thrones Telltale Trailer Spike VGX

When Telltale Games first announced a partnership with HBO's Game of Thrones series (based on the George R.R. Martin books), fans were over the moon. If the people behind The Walking Dead could do even half as good a job with this beloved property, then fans would be mighty happy with the end product. However, all Telltale could announce at the time was that they were working on a Game of Thrones title and that it would tie-in with the TV series not the novels.

Since then a few more details have surfaced here and there, but for the most part Telltale has stayed focused on The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us – their more immediate properties. And when they weren't busy breaking our hearts with Clementine's story, Telltale was slowly unveiling details for Tales from the Borderlands.

All that is to say we still don't know much about this Game of Thrones game, but it looks like that might soon change. Just this week Telltale unleashed their first teaser image for Game of Thrones, which you can check out below:

Obviously, TV series watchers won't get much out of the quote or hashtag, but novel readers have already begun speculating. Since the HBO show is slowly starting to incorporate elements from Dance with Dragons (the fifth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series) some believe that this is the first hint as to the game's setting and time period. We know it runs concurrent to the show, but where and when exactly was never clear.

It also seems pretty apparent that the game will follow House Forrester, a house occasionally mentioned in the books but never seen. If the game does feature a member of House Forrester than it stands to reason that the Iron to which the hashtag refers is Stannis Baratheon, heir to the Iron Throne. And it just so happens that in the latest season of the HBO show Stannis entered the conflict with the Others (the "Ice") beyond the wall.

Again, this is all speculation but it seems that the game is slowly starting to pull into focus. If Telltale is feeding gamers clues and not misdirection then it stands to reason that this Game of Thrones title will likely focus on the conflict beyond the wall and will follow the HBO series' timeline. And like The Walking Dead it will feature new characters as its protagonists, while also incorporating familiar faces where necessary.

The new season of Game of Thrones premieres April 8th, 2015 so perhaps we could be looking at a similar release date for this game. Make sure to stick tuned to Game Rant for more details as they come in.

What do you make of this Game of Thrones tease? Do you think the game should follow the series storyline or its own narrative?
