No stranger to creating amazing and very detailed props art, sculptures and a whole host of other things; the team over at Weta have directed their keen eye on Team Fortress 2. Their fully functioning (by fully functioning we mean moves and makes sounds and stuff) sentry gun is now guarding the foyer of Valve Studios.
Not only does it absolutely look as real as a cartoon gun can, it actually tracks movement with motion sensors and has that authentic “beep, beep” of when it has targeted some unfortunate soul. Beware those of you thinking about sneaking into Valve headquarters for information on Half Life 2: Episode 3, there’s a sentry gun waiting for you. Well, unless you’re a Spy, or perhaps a Heavy, or even a Solider… and Scouts are pretty fast… hmmm, maybe they should of went with the fully upgraded sentry.
Check it out in all it’s awesomeness:
For those of you who are not playing Team Fortress 2 and have no idea what any of this is, then why are you reading this? …That is to say… if you think this is awesome and would like to see where it comes from then all you have to do is shimmy your way over to Steam and download it or go buy the Orange Box (pro tip: it’s worth it). If you are really in the dark, Team Fortress 2 is an FPS with a very unique cartoon like art style. It’s a fantastic game that in this writer’s humble opinion is one of the best FPS games you could play. It’s witty, comical and just overall a fun time, much like all of Valve’s recent games.
With some luck the guys over at Weta will reproduce this sentry in a smaller, more desk sized proportion, but with all the bells and whistles in the full sized version. You would be the envy of all your co-workers and/or friends, assuming you have any that is.
If you are wondering, Weta is a group of five time Oscar winning conceptual designers, artisans and physical manufacturers servicing the world’s entertainment and creative industries. They we co-founded by Peter Jackson and are most well known for their work on Lord of the Rings, Avatar, King Kong and District 9. Of course, they do an awful lot more than that and if you drop over to their site you will see that for yourself – it’s quite impressive.
What do you think of Valve’s built-to-size Team Fortress 2 sentry gun? Would you ever purchase your own mini-sentry?
