Super Mario Galaxy 2 was released just under three years after the original game. It's not often that the Super Mario series has direct sequels, though Nintendo clearly felt that the Galaxy concept was too good for just one game. Like its predecessor, Super Mario Galaxy 2 features ingenious level designs set in outer space. The creative levels are regarded as some of the best in the history of the platform genre.
