Medal of Honor Limited Edition Announced

Purveyors of purchasing limited edition sets of their video games will be no doubt pleased that the upcoming EA shooter reboot, Medal of Honor will be a recipient of an edition that features a bit more than the standard retail version. What kind of goodies will you be getting? The PS3 version will be getting a remastered HD version of Medal of Honor: Frontline (originally released in 2002), unfortunately, Xbox 360 and PC versions will not be featuring it. All versions, however, will be including extra weapons. No doubt these weapons will be featured in the multiplayer.

What weapons? The Heckler & Kock MP7, exclusive to the limited edition, and early access to multiplayer shotguns(the Remington 870MCS and TOZ194) Anyway, you’ll be getting them sooner than people in multiplayer, should you buy the limited edition. Check…

Valve Bans Thousands of Innocent Modern Warfare 2 Gamers, Makes Amends

There’s no denying that the online scene in Modern Warfare 2 is pretty much where it’s at: everyone loves it, everyone plays it, and everyone is addicted to it. On the PC, Call of Duty is distributed by Steam and many hosted servers are guarded by the VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat System). On VAC-guarded servers players are protected from people who are using hacks and exploits, as they will be detected and automatically handed a ban. Therefore, virtually nobody on a VAC server tries cheating, and the whole system works well.

That is, until a massive wave of gamers received bans and all claim they’re completely innocent.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, everybody claims to be innocent, especially if they’re guilty. However, after July 19 improbably massive groups of gamers went and displayed their outrage over seemingly random bans they were given after…

Date Set for Infinity Ward/Activision Trial

May 23rd 2011. Mark it in your diaries folks, because that’s the day the lawsuit involving Activision and Respawn Entertainment‘s founders Jason West and Vince Zampella finally goes to trial. According to Robert Schwartz, attorney for West and Zampella, this trial will include just two of the three lawsuits that are currently filed against Activision. We’ll have to wait until August 5th 2010 to see if the third lawsuit (detailed below) will also be included in next year’s hearing.

In April earlier this year, a group of employees from Infinity Ward filed a lawsuit against Activision asking for half a billion dollars, alleging breach of contract and unpaid royalties. Modern Warfare 2′s Resurgence Pack Comes to PS3 and PC

The Resurgence Pack for Modern Warfare 2 released recently for the PC and PS3, almost a month after the release for the 360. If you don’t remember what came with the Resurgence Pack you can check out this trailer here, but here’s the reminder for you: 5 maps, two of which are remodeled Modern Warfare 1 maps Vacant and Strike. The three new maps, Carnival, Trailer Park, and Fuel offer new close combat opportunities for players to shoot other players in.

Infinity Ward Replaces Staff Following Mass Exodus

Plenty of news has come out of the Infinity Ward office over the past few months, but the drama is only just beginning. Job postings available at Gamastura have revealed that Infinity Ward is attempting to save face and continue development of Modern Warfare 3, despite the loss of a massive senior staff base. 6 new job postings are available, and judging by the number of employees that have either left completely or moved to Respawn, that number is sure to rise in the coming weeks.

I’m interested to see how development on the next Modern Warfare will play out with the loss of critical team members (and lots of them!) and how this will affect the quality of the final product. Will the newly patched-up dev…

MW2 Resurgence Pack Release Date for PS3 and PC

The Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Map Pack’s 360-exclusivity is almost over, and looks to be hitting both PS3 and PC in Early July.

Xbox 360 owners have been enjoying the exclusivity of the Modern Warfare 2 downloadable map pack, The Resurgence Package, since June 3rd, leaving PC and PS3 owners guessing as to when they would get their hands on it for themselves. They need wonder no more, as Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling tweeted today.

“The Resurgence Package DLC for Modern Warfare 2 will hit @playstation (US) and PC (worldwide) July 6th! For @playstation (EU ) its July 7th.”

Once the baby stopped waking up every two to four hours it would be time to resume normal gaming habits again, or so I told myself.

I’d done nothing for the last four months but get up, go to work, come home, help clean the house, help make dinner, give the baby a bath, put the baby to bed, hang out with my wife for an hour, go to bed tired, wake up exhausted – rinse and repeat. Every night I sat on the couch and stared at the growing collection of games that I had no time to play but refused to stop buying. Invariably the task of actually picking one, just one, to play to completion would prove too daunting and I would spend the night in search of even more sedentary activity.

Infinity Ward is Dead, Long Live Infinity Ward

It’s been a long, difficult road for the staff members at Infinity Ward. Last week, development veteran David Braben — creator of Lost Winds and Elite — branded the studio “dead,” following the departure of over a third of the members of the original team.

“Whatever happens now, Infinity Ward as it was, is dead. The ‘brand’ may live on, but a company is its senior staff. Without them it is a different company, and at the very least will need all its seniors replacing — either by promotion from those remaining, or from outside.

That is not to say that those others might not do a really good job of making it work, but it will have a different mindset, a different approach, a different balance of experience. Tools and tech will carry over, but a…

Treyarch: ‘Black Ops’ Is Fresh but Familiar

People may be wondering if the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops will be drawing heavily from Modern Warfare 2 – but developer Treyarch assures gamers the title will be vastly different than expected.

In fact, Black Ops started development a full year before Modern Warfare 2.

Treyarch executive, Mark Lamia spoke to CVG and had this to say:

“We started Black Ops a year before Modern Warfare 2 came out. So we didn’t ask ourselves that question because they were making their game and we make our game. We’re two totally different developments, two totally different creatives.What we did think was we’re going to make a Call of Duty game and people expect another great experience.

Modern Warfare 2 is hugely popular for a variety of very good and very bad reasons. The only one that really matters though is that Modern Warfare is ridiculously fun. It can get a little stale after a while though, which is why Activision and Infinity Ward are releasing the second Modern Warfare 2 map pack, the Resurgence Pack, today for the Xbox 360.

If you’re not familiar with what will be included in the map pack, you should check out the trailer for the DLC. It will explain everything you need to know, and get you excited for a map pack in ways you wouldn’t have expected.

You know all those times when you’re not playing Modern Warfare 2? Don’t you wish those could be more like the times when you are playing Modern Warfare 2? Well, thanks to the release of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack, now they can.

Modern Warfare 2 ‘Resurgence’ Map Pack Trailer

Fans of Modern Warfare 2 must be happy after hearing that the first map pack released for the game broke Xbox Live and PSN sales records, but now they can look forward to MW2′s second map pack (which will probably give the first pack a run for its money).

The latest video of Inside Xbox has shown off some gameplay footage of the brand new maps, as well as a walkthrough of the levels by Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling.

US Gamers Spent Over $25b On Games in ’09

Last year over 180 million US gamers spent over $25 billion on games. This averages out to around $140 spent per gamer. Of that $25 billion, over $15 billion was spent on consoles (which includes the handheld DS and PSP).

What really impressed me was that nearly 30% of gaming revenue was made from PC and online gaming (not including MMOs). In a world where PC gaming is supposedly dead, it looks to be doing very good for itself, pulling in roughly $7 billion.

More amazing is the mobile phone market. I remember a time, not too long ago, when the best game you could get on your phone was Snake. Time has most certainly changed. Last year mobile phone and iPod touch gaming racked in over $1 billion. That is a lot of games…

Modern Warefare 2 Stimulus Package Breaks PSN Records

It wasn’t more than a month and a half ago that we found out Modern Warfare 2‘s Stimulus Package DLC broke records by selling over 1 million copies in 24 hours, and 2.5 million over its first weekend on Xbox Live. Now that Microsoft’s exclusivity deal is up and the Stimulus Package has landed on PSN, we’re seeing more of the same.

Community Manager at Infinity Ward Robert Bowling posted this to his Twitter account today:

“Thanks to the 1 Million+ @playstation users who helped the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package break day 1 & week 1 download records on PSN!”

Activision to Hire New Call of Duty Developer?

This may be nothing more than a rumor, but Kotaku is reporting that Activision may have found a new developer for the Call of Duty franchise: Raven Software. Raven has created such games as the X-Men Origins: Wolverine and the upcoming Singularity.

If this is true, then Activision seems to already be filling the void left by Infinity Ward and its developers who have basically all jumped ship since the recent falling out between the publisher and developer. Kotaku went on to say that not only was this rumored, but that Raven Software was putting two big games on hold–another James Bond game and another X-Men game–to begin work immediately on the next Call of Duty game. Pretty specific for something that’s just a rumor, no?

Xbox Live’s very own Major Nelson recently interviewed Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling on his podcast, and Mr. Bowling released some details about the upcoming second map pack for Modern Warfare 2.

Just like the previous map pack it will indeed be hitting Xbox 360 first with limited exclusivity on June 3rd. The Resurgence map pack will set you back 1200 points ($15), which seems to be the new standard for Call of Duty maps. On top of all this information the five new maps were detailed and they include 2 maps that appeared in CoD4, as well as 3 brand new maps.

Vacant – the Russian office buildings that have been torn apart by conflict (CoD4)

Strike – an urban backdrop that is surrounded by hotels (CoD4)

Carnival – an abandoned war-torn carnival that still features a ferris-wheel, fun house, and more (New)

New Modern Warfare 2 Resurgence Pack Coming June 3rd

Move over Stimulus Pack, on June 3rd Infinity Ward is releasing the (last?) Modern Warfare 2 DLC map pack, the Resurgence Pack, for Xbox 360 on Xbox Live. As with the initial map pack, the Resurgence Pack will include 5 new multiplayer maps.

So far, no details or price for the 5 maps has been released. The Stimulus Pack contained three new maps and two maps from the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare at a price of 1200 MS Points. While the $15 price point brought about a lot of discussion on DLC pricing, I’m assuming this pack will be the same price, but only time will tell.

To go along with the release of the Resurgence Pack, Infinity Ward is going to have back to back Double XP weekends. From May…

The ESRB’s view of maturity is very simple: blood, guts, violence and sex. But is that really what ‘mature’ is?

If we pick up a dictionary, it tells us that Mature is:

Intended for or restricted to adults, esp. by reason of explicit sexual content or the inclusion of violence or obscene language: mature movies.

Fully developed in body or mind, as a person: a mature woman.

Society tells us that the term ‘Mature Videogame’ is oxymoronic. There is no such thing, for one automatically cancels out the other. Videogames are designed to transport the player to the days of their youth; a place where anything was possible and joy was to be found around every corner.

The term ‘mature’ implies a life led by adults, one filled with tough decisions, stress and hard work.
