Metal Gear Solid
- Release Sep 03, 1998
Metal Gear is an important series in video game history. The first Metal Gear game was designed by Hideo Kojima and released in 1987. Metal Gear Solid is arguably the most famous game in the series, and was released for the original PlayStation in 1998. The game follows Solid Snake, a soldier trying to save the world from a terrorist group called FOXHOUND. Solid Snake is a legendary spy and must use stealth to take down the genetically enhanced FOXHOUND agents.
Metal Gear Solid‘s stealth-based mechanics continue to influence action-adventure games to this day, including the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell series. Metal Gear Solid received wide critical acclaim, and is considered to be one of the greatest and most important video games of all time—it popularized the stealth genre, and was one of the first games to emulate a cinematic experience.
The series continues today with numerous sequels on a variety of platforms, with the latest in the series, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, scheduled for release in 2015.
