Halo is Bungie’s space-based first-person shooter series, in which players take on the role of Master Chief, a supersoldier fighting against an alliance of alien races that want to wipe out humanity from the universe. As a member of the United Nations Space Command, Master Chief and other Spartans attempt to negotiate a civil war while fighting off the alien invasion. Halo is a true sci-fi adventure that explores the complexities of far-reaching colonies, extraterrestrial contact, and civil war with inspiring gameplay and a multiplayer system that raised the stakes for all games to come after.
The series has received acclaim since the first game in 2001, with critics praising the plot, graphics, and multiplayer. There are five core games in the series as well as several spinoffs, such as Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST, which explore the extended Halo universe of the comics and book series. Halo has become a cultural icon that Brian Bendis, writer of the Halo comics, has compared to Star Wars. The franchise has inspired books, comics, and several fan-made series, such as Rooster Teeth Productions’ Red vs. Blue, and remains an important part of pop culture even 14 years after its original creation.
