Grand Theft Auto is one of the most famous and infamous game series of all time, and the fifth game in the series is no exception. Featuring the franchise’s trademark biting satire and depravity, Grand Theft Auto V tackles the self-obsessed indulgence of Los Angeles and Hollywood in the fictional city of Los Santos—a veritable hotbed of heists.

Rather than focusing on one central character, Grand Theft Auto V explores the complex relationships between three characters—Franklin, an ambitious former gang member; Michael, who has been living a life of luxury in witness protection; and Trevor, Michael’s unhinged former partner in crime. As pawns in a larger scheme, the three criminals commit increasingly daring heists over the course of the game.

The game received incredible amounts of praise upon its release, with reviewers loving the large scope and daring three-protagonist approach. While some felt that the characterization of Trevor was a mite shallow, others loved the decision to make one of the game’s protagonists so incredibly unlikeable.

Though Grand Theft Auto V‘s online features had a rocky beginning, improvements have made it a continuously engaging and entertaining way to play for those who have finished the main story.
