Nintendo fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of must-have software for the Wii U, and the drought that many day-one owners have suffered through has almost reached its end. Pikmin 3 is a good start – that much is evident for anyone who read our review – but one game that many are eagerly awaiting is the fourth installment of Super Smash Bros..
Scheduled to appear on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS next year, Super Smash Bros. is easily one of the most anticipated titles launching on any platform, let alone a Nintendo console, in 2014. The slow trickle of information that series creator Masahiro Sakurai has been releasing about the forthcoming fighter (via the game’s official website) has been rewarding franchise enthusiasts with tidbits of information, and now the site has confirmed that Mario’s sibling, Luigi, will be making a reappearance in the fourth Smash.
The tragically overlooked Luigi’s confirmation doesn’t come as a surprise given the fact that he’s been in every single iteration the franchise has ever had, but it’s still nice to see the character in action in both the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game. Based on the handful of new screenshots, the green-suited hero will retain the move set that he’s established in past Super Smash Bros. games.
Luigi’s confirmation is arriving a little ahead of the North American release of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team – a game that the character’s profile on the official Smash Bros. website makes sure to mention. This corresponds with the trend that Captain Olimar’s smashing reveal kicked off on the eve of Pikmin 3‘s launch in Japan, and could signal the unveiling of a brawler with every major Nintendo release going forward.
The Wonderful 101 is the next game on the horizon, so maybe smashaholics can expect some more roster additions then. As Sakurai has previously confirmed, each newcomer will receive a special cutscene – an element that the campaign in the pair of new Super Smash Bros. titles will be missing – so some new gameplay footage may be arriving sooner rather than later.
