One of 2018's most anticipated games is Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch, a character brawler that aims to be the most definitive edition of the popular franchise. Not only does the game feature every single character that has previously appeared, but it also packs in new characters, stages, and content to make this more than a simple port of the underplayed Wii U title. With release still a couple months away, leaks and rumors continue to swirl around the game, with the latest one centering on a highly requested character.

In a post on GameFAQs, frequent Super Smash Bros Ultimate commenter Vergeben again states that the roster contains an unannounced Square Enix character, and highlights how the company is actively trying to prevent the details from leaking early. Unfortunately, no character information is actually provided due to concerns over employee job security. If the leak is to be believed, even the company is trying to change the names that employees hear and spread misinformation to keep things secret. In any instance, rumors like this are hit or miss, so fans are urged to take this with a grain of salt.

Super Smash Bros Geno Possible

For Square Enix, Geno is the one character that fans have been requesting for numerous years and remains the one character outside of King K. Rool and Ridley that remains unconfirmed. The popular Super Mario RPG character appeared as an accessory outfit for the Mii Fighter, in the Wii U version, though, so many are hopeful that the character will finally join the roster for Ultimate.

Outside of Geno, Noctis from Final Fantasy 15 and Lara Croft from the long-running Tomb Raider franchise have also been speculated. Both characters continue to be front and center in the gaming community's collective consciousness, as Noctis has recently appeared in Tekken 7 while Shadow of the Tomb Raider hit store shelves a few weeks ago.

Even though Masahiro Sakurai has previously said that fans shouldn't expect a rush of new character announcements like what fans saw at E3, there are at least a few more left to announce. While fan-favorites like Skull Kid and Waluigi remain high on the list outside of Geno, many are expecting some sort of new information to be arriving from Nintendo after an update to the official Super Smash Bros. Ultimate website revealed new tags and playlists behind the scenes. If it's not for a new fighter reveal, many agree that it could be news on the highly rumored Spirits mode, which likely fits with the spirit of October.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will release on December 7th exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
