As one of a few major new IPs in recent years from Nintendo, there's a lot of anticipation surrounding the wacky third-person shooter Splatoon. With a slew of unique mechanics tied directly to the ink-centric gameplay that surrounds the title, the game is sure to make a splash when it arrives on the Wii U later this month.

During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation, however, the Big N gave gamers a smashing reason to lay down the cash for the new game in advance of its release.

For those willing to pre-order Splatoon from GameStop, there will be a very cool incentive handed out in the form of a code for Inkling costumes in the new Super Smash Bros. game. The costumes are to be worn by Mii Fighters during battle, and there will be a total of three different types that accompany the allusive Splatoon-themed content code.

Featuring both boy and girl variants of the cutesy Inkling, the DLC pack also comes with a green squid based on the alternate form of the aforementioned heroes. What's odd about these Mii costumes though, they appear to only be accessible in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U – leaving 3DS owners ink-less and the portable version of their Miis without delightfully colorful clothes.

Still, this is a great incentive for anyone that was hoping to see the Inkling join the fighting game's roster as a playable character. We even went so far as to include the Splatoon protagonist as one of five combatants that should join Smash Bros. as DLC, but this is a nice alternative if that doesn't end up being the case. That said, it's also a promising sign that Nintendo is at least thinking about adding parts of its new property into the iconic crossover-fueled beat 'em up, which could lead to more in the future.

It's no secret that Ninty has a lot riding on Splatoon, which is why it has been pushing the game so hard in recent months. While the lack of online voice chat has been an upsetting revelation for many hoping to jump into a few games with friends online, the announcement of Splatoon-specific amiibo demonstrates how serious the house of Mario is about its newest property.

Splatoon is set to arrive exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U on May 29, 2015.
