Everyone and their mothers (and probably even your mother’s mother) knows that Nintendo will be revealing their brand new console in just a few weeks at this year’s E3. Rumors regarding the Wii 2 have been flying all over the internet, and while an abundance of rumored details on the hardware have bombarded cyberspace, it’s the software that will sell the system. That’s why it’s nice to hear a rumor that claims that a new Super Smash Bros. will be unveiled for Nintendo’s new console at this year’s E3.
The Great Gaming Crusade is the site that claims their sources have tipped them off about the the existence and upcoming reveal of the next Smash Bros.. This rumor isn’t exactly a shocking revelation, as Nintendo has become infamous for releasing a new Super Smash Bros. installment once every console generation. If Nintendo has had a sequel to Brawl in development for their new system for a while now, there is a good possibility that the game will release in the system’s launch window — or better yet, it could launch right alongside Nintendo’s Project Cafe.
Another installment of the Super Smash Bros. series seems like a dream come true, but there are a few reasons to doubt the rumor. The director and game designer on past installments of Super Smash Bros., Masahiro Sakurai, is still hard at work on Kid Icarus: Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS, and it seems difficult to believe that development on that game has slowed down enough for him to work on both titles. Sure, Nintendo could have enlisted the help of HAL to work on the game, but it seems unlikely that they would exclude Sakurai from a project like this.
It’ll be interesting to see if there is any validity to this rumor at this year’s E3, and hopefully we will see the triumphant return of Super Smash Bros. on the Wii 2 – or even the Nintendo 3DS. If Nintendo is working on a new Smash Bros., then they better have taken our list of the Top 5 Characters that Should Have Been in Brawl to heart.

I very much doubt this rumor is true (not that it wouldn’t be a great thing). I just hope that the next game will be more…enjoyable than Brawl. >_> Stupid tripping.
I agree. I hope that it is true, but I don’t think it is. If Smash Bros. Is in development then I don’t think it’s too far along.
A 3DS version seems more likely at this point in time, so that is a very real possibility at E3.
I agree though, get rid of that stupid tripping mechanic. It’s cost me a couple of matches.
I’m also a bit bitter about what they did to Samus in the transition from Melee to Brawl. She was my best character until Brawl. D:
I disliked how they took away the speed that was established in Melee!
There were also a lot of clones…
Also, they took away Mewtwo, which was just wrong.
Ah, glad you brought that up. The speed thing is a touchy subject for Smash fans. I prefer the gameplay from Melee, but I do love the characters they added in Brawl. I don’t like the proliferation of clones (or the fact that they refused to make Gannondorf fight like Gannondorf instead of Captain Falcon) and the removal of Mewtwo was sad.
@Kholdstare89
The speed was the only thing I missed, but the slower combat did allow for some cool in-air combos.
I loved the final roster in Brawl (minus the lack of Mewtwo), and I hope that all of the characters in Brawl return in the Smash.
It’ll be interesting to see what would happen to the roster if the game appears on the 3DS.
They really need to get rid of the clones though! I love having Falco and Gannondorf, but these characters deserve their own movesets and final smashes.
I am beyond excited to see what Nintendo has up their sleeves for E3. Don’t disappoint me!
Speed was the reason Brawl was a Fail imo.
Melee did everything SO much better. Final smashes need to be nixed or changed, like say you’re kicking so much ass so you build up a point thing and when it reach’s 100 you get to unleash the smash. This way the pro’s will be separate from the weaklings. Handicap would help “even” this so everyone can have fun not just the good players.
Sakurai said he’s done with the SSB series, so he’s probably not working on the next one.
If the project cafe disc size rumors are true, this could be the beefiest super smash bros. yet. We saw what they could do with 8 GB now imagine what they can do with the rumored 25 GB? theoretically it could fit three times as much of everything in brawl.
A handheld Smash Bros would be big for Nintendo right now!
