Super Meat Boy Ultra Edition For Retail

Super Meat Boy isn't just another indie game that's looking for some bit of popularity. It's a legitimately fun yet difficult game, one that brings back memories of the tricky platformers of the late 80s and early 90s era of gaming. Any fan of old-school gaming would certainly love it, and newer fans could certainly derive some enjoyment out of it, too.

While it can currently only be purchased via download on Xbox Live and Steam, wouldn't it be nice for such a well-received game to be sold in stores? Well, that is exactly what is about to happen, with the brand new Super Meat Boy [Ultra Edition!].

Edmund McMillen, one half of Super Meat Boy's production team, Team Meat, revealed the cover art for the Ultra Edition at the 2011 Game Developer's Conference. The game is expected to be sold at various retail locations, as well as online via Amazon.

As to what will be included in the new edition, it will contain a 40-page booklet with never-before-seen artwork, along with behind-the-scenes information and newer versions of Team Meat's comics. The game will be released this April for approximately $20 US dollars.

The Ultra Edition will also include the game's soundtrack, with a few new audio samples, as well as a mini-poster that was supposed to be the original design for the PC cover. Just to warn you, it's a little bit disturbing, and it seems to have been done with the intention of referencing the NES Mega Man covers.

Game Rant would just like to take this opportunity to formally apologize for any nightmares you readers may have for seeing an overly-ripped skinless man holding an equally-skinless woman while explosions, flying buzzsaws, and shooting missiles fly behind them, all while a deformed mutant-baby in a robotic suit looms in the background.

Are you interesting in buying the Super Meat Boy [Ultra Edition!]? Does the promise of new artwork and a soundtrack make you want to shell out $20 bucks? Is the poster really that disturbing, or am I just exaggerating?

Super Meat Boy [Ultra Edition!] ships to retail this April.
