Remember when everyone was doing the twist and thought rock 'n' roll was the tops? Well Zombies are now the hottest dance, and surviving in a post-apocalyptic environment is the new rock 'n' roll. All the cool kids are doing it and it's showing no signs of disappearing - and no platform is exempt from this undead takeover. Not even the Xbox One which, will soon be getting a polished up re-release of a Xbox 360 favorite with State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition.

The original State of Decay had all the trappings of a zombie classic. From an open-world environment with a heavy emphasis on survival to its role-playing elements, console gamers flocked to Undead Labs' undead nightmare (check out our review). Now, the game is set to make its Xbox One appearance in Spring 2015 with a new coat of paint, previously-released DLC, and a batch of shiny new content.

This announcement comes at the hands of Microsoft's Larry Hryb in a video showcase featuring the developer. Promised in this re-worked version of the 2013 title are updated animations and effects running at the much-clamored-for 1080p. Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain says that the team will be taking advantage of the Xbox One's hardware and "bringing [the game] up to spec."

Strain goes on to highlight the importance of the game's community, citing his belief that players always have input into how they would like to see a game develop, and claiming his team is "well-positioned to give them a lot of those things." Considering the cancellation of plans for co-op multiplayer, one can hope that this will be one of the new features that will be making it into State of Decay's "definitive" edition.

Nothing else has been said yet about what these new features will entail, but players will be happy to hear that all previously-released downloadable content for the Xbox 360 title will be getting a make-over and coming included in State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition. This will include the Breakdown and Lifeline add-ons. While it's hard to deny the fact that zombies have become an incredibly saturated part of the gaming sphere with high-profile titles like DayZ and H1Z1, the original State of Decay still represents one of the most interesting takes on the theme yet.

From its persistent world that continues to change even after the game has been turned off to its completely open structure that allows players to develop their own community wherever they see fit, State of Decay put the power to survive back into players' hands. If they can achieve that same feeling with the Year One Survival Edition there's no doubt that Undead Labs will have another hit on their hands.

Will you be interested in making a return-trip to the zombie apocalypse when State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition launches? What kinds of new features would you like to see in this version of the game?
