StarCraft 2 Summer Release

There’s less than a few weeks for StarCraft II is released and some of us have been dreading it. Not because of any sort of hesitancy towards StarCraft II‘s gameplay, but because of its dreaded System Requirements. Will our PCs be able to handle the game in all of its glory? Or are we doomed to lower our graphical settings, potentially even eliminating our ability to play?

Well the dreaded day has arrived, Blizzard has released its official System Requirements for StarCraft II. Take a deep breath and prepare yourself, because here they are:

Minimum System Requirements*:

PC: Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7 (Latest Service Packs) with DirectX 9.0c
2.6 GHz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor

Intel Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT or ATI Radeon X1600 or better

1 GB RAM (1.5 GB required for Windows Vista/Windows 7 users, 2 GB for Mac users)

*Note: Due to potential programming changes, the Minimum System Requirements for this game may change over time.

Recommended Specifications:

PC: Windows Vista/Windows 7
Dual Core 2.4Ghz Processor
2 GB RAM
512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon HD 3870 or better

Mac: Intel Core 2 Duo processor
4 GB system RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT or ATI Radeon HD 4670 or better

Oof! Well, it’s over with. How does your computer fare, Ranters? The last time I upgraded was about a year ago and I’m sitting  fine with my video card and RAM, but my Duel Core 2.1Ghz is a bit under recommended settings. Let’s hope no Ranter goes unable to play come StarCraft II‘s launch.

I have friend who bought an expensive laptop specifically for StarCraft II years ago. He was under the impression the game would be out a wee bit sooner than how it worked out. Perhaps the experience has left him cold towards StarCraft, but I will remind him it is time to upgrade again.

How does your rig measure up, Ranters? Are you good to go for StarCraft II‘s release? Ready to help Jim Raynor save the universe?

StarCraft II will be released on July 27th for the PC and Mac, but if you want to purchase a digital copy you can start downloading right now.

  1. I’ve been in on the beta and it’s looking good from my rig, which is a little old but not ‘dated’ yet.
