Star Wars Republic Commando Sequel

Back when LucasArts filed a trademark for something presumed to be titled Star Wars: First Assault, rampant speculation began over what the potential video game might be. Some thought it might be a revitalization of the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise, while others were looking towards LucasArts' several space battle properties as potential fits for the title.

While we still don't know what exactly First Assault is, we can confirm that the game is headed to the XBLA. Additionally, the first piece of promotional material for the game has been released, that may be quite telling of what type of game Star Wars fans are in store for.

The image and XBLA designation come to us by way of a purported Xbox.com listing, which several unannounced, released, and in-the-pipeline downloadable games. In all honesty, we don’t know much more about the game than we did back when LucasArts filed the trademark. However, that's not going to stop us from taking a few stabs at what the downloadable title might be.

It's important to note that LucasArts is not talking about First Assault at the moment, and we are operating purely in speculation territory. With that being said, though, it looks like First Assault might be in the same vein as the aforementioned Battlefront.

Star Wars First Assault XBLA Image

The game's virtual box art depicts a squad of storm troopers in the midst of battle, suggesting the game might have some form of multiplayer mode, or cooperative element. Although it doesn't outright indicate what genre the game may be it all but rules out the potential of this being a Rebel Assault sequel or prequel. However, rumors of the game being a part of the Republic Commando series are still viable.

What do you think Star Wars: First Assault is based on the virtual box art? Do you think it is connected to one of LucasArts' past franchises or is a completely new, downloadable IP?

Star Wars: First Assault currently has no release date, but is reportedly an XBLA title.
