A new live action trailer for Star Wars Battlefront pays homage to one of Obi-Wan Kenobi's most famous scenes, and also features an appearance by Anna Kendrick.

After Rise of the Tomb Raider and Fallout 4 drop tomorrow, arguably the next biggest game to look forward to is the upcoming shooter Star Wars Battlefront. With Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens hitting the big screen in December, Star Wars Battlefront is poised to be a massive financial success for EA and DICE. Even so, EA can't simply rely on the hype of the film to market Battlefront - and so they've engaged in an aggressive marketing campaign, which now includes a mostly live action trailer starring Anna Kendrick.

The trailer shows various "people" living their normal, everyday lives, only to have their bodies disappear, leaving their clothes to fall to the ground in a heap. This is an homage to the conclusion of Obi-Wan Kenobi's battle with Darth Vader aboard the original Death Star in A New Hope, which saw Kenobi's robes hit the ground in a similar fashion.

Driving the Obi-Wan Kenobi reference home is Anna Kendrick's line in the trailer: "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." After uttering Obi-Wan Kenobi's famous last words, Kendrick disappears as well, and then becomes a character in the midst of a Star Wars Battlefront multiplayer battle.

Live action trailers for video games are nothing new, and they serve the purpose of appealing to a wider audience than just the gaming community. EA should be especially interested in doing just that if they hope to sell 13 million units of the game, as they recently projected.

However, this live action trailer for Battlefront actually stands at odds with some of the other more recent video game live action trailers. Typically, these live action trailers outright avoid showing any gameplay at all, or very little gameplay, as we saw with the live action Destiny: The Taken King trailer and the recent Black Ops 3 trailer starring Michael B. Jordan. Star Wars Battlefront instead draws viewers in with the live action content, and then at the end offers a flurry of cinematic gameplay snippets.

These gameplay clips are very exciting, and should appeal directly to Star Wars fans, even those that aren't gamers. It also does a good job of showing scenes inspired by the movies, including a glimpse of a battle between Emperor Palpatine and Luke Skywalker, as well as  anAT-AT stomping across the snowy landscape of Hoth. These iconic scenes are cherished memories for many, and we'll see if EA's nostalgia-fueled marketing campaign pays off next week.

Are you looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront's release, or will you be too busy with other games when it comes out? If you weren't convinced to pick up the game before, does this new live action trailer starring Anna Kendrick change your mind? Star Wars Battlefront will launch on November 17th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
