EA squashes any hopes for Star Wars Battlefront DLC based off of The Force Awakens, officially stating that they're focusing solely on the original trilogy.

Star Wars Battlefront has received a fairly mixed response from gamers and critics, but given that its release was so close to the release of the newest Star Wars film, it's no surprise that gamers were nonetheless excited for the title. However, fans of the latest film may be saddened to learn that there are no plans for Star Wars Battlefront to include DLC based off Episode VII.

According to a recent Tweet posted on EA's official Star Wars Twitter page, the developer intends to only focus on the original trilogy of films. Sadly, this means that there will most likely not be any future DLC based off either the prequels or Episode VII and subsequent films in the series.

This might come as a surprise to gamers, since Battlefront recently celebrated the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a bonus EXP weekend. The timing of Battlefront also coincided so closely to the release of the first of the new films that it's surprising that EA didn't want to capitalize further on its popularity, especially following the Battle of Jakku DLC. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen previously stated that EA does have the rights to make games based off of the Star Wars new films, so it's a shame that Battlefront won't be receiving any new material based off of The Force Awakens. However, EA execs have previously stated that they'd like to create more Star Wars Battlefront games, so perhaps a future title will be based off of the new films.

Thankfully, Star Wars fans aren't completely out of luck when it comes to games based off of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Disney Infinity 3.0 has included a wide variety of cast characters from Star Wars, including series newcomers like Kylo Ren, Finn, and Rey. A new rumor recently floated around that Disney Infinity 3.0 was giving away the secret regarding Rey's origin story, but it's since been revealed that it's a false rumor.

Sadly, part of Battlefront's biggest problem has been its lack of variety and general repetitiveness of its gameplay. Adding maps and characters from the newest films definitely would have provided some extra zest to the game, and encouraged gamers to return to the game as new material was released.

While Star Wars Battlefront may not be everything everyone hoped for, it's still a fun game, and Star Wars Battlefront discounts for the holiday season make it even sweeter.

Star Wars Battlefront is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
