With a little over three months left until its release, it seems that EA and DICE are beginning to ramp up the marketing push for the much-anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront. As launch day approaches, we're starting to get some real insight on the specifics of the game's many multiplayer modes.

Last week, DICE unveiled Blast Mode for the first time — although many were underwhelmed by the 'reveal' of something that is essentially team deathmatch. This week, however, it seems that the studio might have something a little more exciting to show off.

Over the weekend, the official EA Star Wars Facebook page dropped a hint that news regarding a new mode was imminent. An image of an X-Wing Fighter and the phrase 'prepare for take off' was captioned with 'new mode incoming', prompting speculation as to some vehicle-based form of multiplayer.

Despite being a hit with fans in previous Battlefront games, DICE has already confirmed that players won't be able to engage in space battles in the series' upcoming instalment. However, it seems very likely that this mode has been designed to make up for that to some extent.

Just a few days ago, EA was hyping an upcoming announcement as being something that would please fans of Star Wars: Starfighter, and it seems all but certain that this Facebook post refers to the same content. Previously, it was expected that this unveil would take place at Gamescom 2015 in Cologne, which begins later this week.

The various spacefaring ships of the Star Wars franchise are some of its most iconic elements. Making a Battlefront game without X-Wings, TIE Fighters and the Millennium Falcon available to players would disappoint a huge swathe of the franchise's dedicated fan base. That's why EA was quick to confirm the presence of such vehicles shortly after work on a new Battlefront was confirmed to be in process, but the absence of space battles raised some pertinent questions about their role. While we've seen them in normal gameplay, it'll be interesting to see what this new mode consists of.

We're bound to see plenty more of Battlefront in the coming month, and despite early impressions being very positive, this is where the game will really be put under scrutiny. Fans have been waiting a long time for a new entry in this series, and anything less than the best is sure to disappoint.

Star Wars Battlefront is set to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 17, 2015.
