It’s been several months since Electronic Arts and DICE gave players their first look at Star Wars Battlefront in action. The gameplay debut was a long time coming, but now that people have seen it, anticipation is building for the multiplayer-focused shooter.

Even with that anticipation, however, DICE has yet to give us the full picture for Star Wars Battlefront. We know that the game will have several multiplayer modes, a handful of planets (with several maps carved from those planets), and that combat will feature both ground-based and aerial options. There won’t be space battles, though.

Needless to say, since their reveal, DICE has done a decent job of revealing new pieces of information, while keeping other details secret. For example, we only know of a few of the game’s multiplayer modes, but that should change very soon, according to EA.

In the publisher’s latest public address, EA reveals that a new Star Wars Battlefront mode will be revealed "soon." The company wouldn’t say when exactly fans could expect the news to hit, but there is a strong suspicion that Gamescom 2015 is the place. Gamescom takes place in Cologne, Germany from August 5th to August 9th.

As far as what multiplayer mode DICE might reveal, it’s anyone’s guess. EA’s message does say that the new Star Wars Battlefront mode will excite “fans of Starfighters,” but that could mean many different things. From the sound of it, the mode should incorporate iconic Star Wars vehicles into the mix, but many of the Battlefront modes do that already. It's also possible that this new mode will focus exclusively on vehicle battles and nix all of the ground-based FPS combat, but that runs counter intuitive to the game's main focus. Moreover, it would be strange for Star Wars Battlefront to highlight space combat if there are no space battles, but DICE does enjoy its vehicle combat.

Either way, Star Wars fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months leading up to Battlefront’s release in November. First up is this Gamescom reveal, which is presumably the most substantial thing we will see since E3. Then there are a handful of opportunities for gamers to go hands-on with Star Wars Battlefront, including the EB Games Expo and Disney’s D23 Expo next month. It’s unclear what modes might be on display at these events, but if the demo is anything like what we played at E3 then it is well worth stopping by.

What do you think the new Star Wars Battlefront mode will be? Does a mode that “excites Starfighter fans” sound appealing to you?
