Netflix's Squid Game gained extreme popularity upon its release in September 2021. The streaming giant has just confirmed that it is now bringing the show to life with “the biggest reality competition series ever,” titled Squid Game: The Challenge. Fans who loved the series now have the chance to become a part of a competition based on the show, and win millions of dollars while they’re at it.

Netflix broke the news of Squid Game: The Challenge with a teaser trailer shared on their website and social media channels. The reality series will bring 456 real players together to battle it out until only one survives and takes home the big Squid Game prize of a whopping $4.56 million. Fans will be happy to know that regardless of what country they live in, anyone can submit an application to participate in the reality show. The casting call is now open, and filming is expected to take place in early 2023.

The 40-second Squid Game: The Challenge teaser provides fans with all the relevant information about the upcoming reality show. The games that they will be playing will be based on the original show, and Netflix promises to add some “surprising new additions.” The teaser trailer features the giant animatronic doll from episode 1 of Squid Game and the dalgona challenge from episode 3. This could be a sign that perhaps similar games will be included in the reality challenge, but it remains to be seen what games will make the final cut.

Squid Game: The Challenge will require the contestants to make some alliances, similar to the ones seen in Squid Game. Netflix has revealed that the games will put the players’ “strategies, alliances, and character to the test.” With each round, a certain number of players will be eliminated, which means they will be sent home, not face the same fate as the losing contestants on the scripted show. The series promises that “in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed.”

Anyone who is interested in participating in this giant reality competition can apply at SquidGameCasting. For Squid Game: The Challenge, “the Front Man is in search of English-language speakers from any part of the world.” The show will be entirely unscripted, with the players’ reactions their own as they go through the different challenges in the 10-episode competition. Considering that Squid Game is Netflix's most popular series, it won’t be surprising to see a lot of fans from around the world applying to participate in the upcoming challenge.

Squid Game: The Challenge is in pre-production at Netflix.
