Square announced today that it intends to follow through on its promise to fans who missed out on the first wave of Final Fantasy 15 Ultimate Collector's Editions.

While news surrounding Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy 15 has slowed down in recent weeks following a flurry of announcements made at the Final Fantasy 15 Uncovered presentation earlier this month, the crescendo of excitement for the hotly anticipated RPG has not followed suit. Fan support has been even more intense than Square itself expected, and the news that the Ultimate Collector's Edition of Final Fantasy 15 sold out within a half hour prompted a response from the studio, which then promised it would make more if it was able.

According to the official Final Fantasy 15 Twitter account, it turns out Square will be able to produce more Final Fantasy 15 Ultimate Collector's Editions after all. In a statement released earlier today, the Final Fantasy 15 Twitter account stated the following:

Of course, many fans are interested in the exact number of Final Fantasy 15 Ultimate Collector's Edition copies being produced, as the original run only made 30,000 copies available worldwide. Square Enix announced during its Active Time Report today that the second run of Final Fantasy 15 Ultimate Collector's Editions would be 10,000 additional copies, a number that might strike some fans as low given how blisteringly fast the original batch sold out once they were made available on the Square Enix Store online.

Square Enix also clarified on the Final Fantasy 15 Twitter that the second wave of the Ultimate Collector's Editions might not be ready to ship until after Final Fantasy 15's September 30 release date due to "factors outside [Square's] control". The publisher is also apparently trying its best to ensure that a late shipment doesn't happen, but the fact it felt the need to warn fans a delayed second wave release might happen certainly suggests it's a very real possibility. It remains pretty unlikely that the news will hinder sales, however, as a large number of Final Fantasy fans have been quite vocal over missing out on the Ultimate Collector's Editions and will definitely jump at another opportunity to purchase them.

The fact that Final Fantasy 15 is getting more Ultimate Collector's Editions should ultimately come as no surprise, however. Reports that Final Fantasy 15 needs to sell 10 million copies in order to be considered a success by Square Enix has set the bar immeasurably high for a game that's been in development for the better part of a decade now. Even if Final Fantasy 15 manages to convert gamers who aren't already Final Fantasy fans, those kinds of sales figures are a tall order that another run of Ultimate Collector's Editions could, at the very least, help – if only by contributing a little bit more to what is surely one of gaming's most important releases in 2016.
