Splinter Cell Blacklist Box Art Coop

Hot on the heels of the box art for Beyond: Two Souls, the cover art for Splinter Cell: Blacklist has arrived. Featuring the franchise's hero, Sam Fisher, in an action pose, the box art is all about creating a striking image.

This is also the first Splinter Cell box art to feature Fisher's iconic night vision goggles since Chaos Theory in 2005. We'd like to say that means the series is refocusing on stealth, but early trailers suggest both action and stealth will play a part going forward.

And although Fisher looks much younger in the image, Blacklist is still a direct sequel to Splinter Cell: Conviction, which teased the dissolution of Third Echelon. In Blacklist, Third Echelon is gone, replaced with the Sam Fisher-led Fourth Echelon.

Although the Splinter Cell franchise is largely considered to be a single player affair, the past few iterations have also featured a compelling cooperative element. Conviction, for example, had a co-op campaign that not only figured into the game's storyline, but also had one of the more unique final missions seen in a cooperative experience.

And so it's with good reason that gamers anticipate the return of co-op for Splinter Cell: Blacklist. However, most of the focus has been placed on Sam Fisher and Fourth Echelon thus far.

Very soon, though, Ubisoft will blow the lid off Blacklist's co-op — this according to official Splinter Cell Twitter account. When asked if Blacklist will feature co-op, the account responded with an emphatic, "Definitely," and claimed that more details were on the way.

Definitely! We'll be revealing details soon! RT @disastroz: @splintercell will blacklist be featuring co-op again? :)

Unfortunately, that's all Ubisoft was willing to say about Blacklist's co-op. It's fair to assume that they are probably creating something in line with previous co-op iterations, but we wouldn't be surprised if, like with the main campaign, they tried something a little different. We'll keep you posted when Ubisoft makes an official announcement, or releases a trailer.

What do you think of the Splinter Cell: Blacklist box art? What would you like to see from Blacklist's co-op?

Splinter Cell: Blacklist releases August 20, 2013 for the PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
