Spider-Man has just been out for two weeks and it is already breaking sales records for publisher Sony. The PlayStation 4 exclusive title was able to rake in 3.3 million copies in its first three days, which is an impressive milestone, but not at all surprising given that pre-orders reached one million copies, breaking another record for the publisher.

The latest video-game iteration of Spider-Man by Insomniac Games now holds the title as the fastest selling first-party video game in Sony’s history, which was previously held by God of War (3.1 million). PlayStation’s global senior vice president, Stephen Turvey, praised both Marvel and Insomniac for bringing “Spider-Man back to gaming in a way that you want to experience it.” Furthermore, Turvey added that the game exceeded all expectations and that Sony is proud to have published the game.

Ever since Spider-Man was released earlier this month, it quickly became an instant commercial success and broke records not only for Sony and Insomniac Games but for Marvel as well. The UK sales charts revealed that Spider-Man is now the fastest selling Marvel video game in history, a record that was previously held by LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.

Spider-Man is praised by both fans and critics alike as Insomniac was able to seamlessly incorporate its own take on the story with existing character arcs. In Game Rant’s review, we were impressed with the overall experience, “from the story to exploration to the combat to seemingly endless upgrades, Spider-Man is packed full of things worth doing and that are fun to do.”

Several other features such as the vast open-world of New York City gave players the freedom to explore the environment and visit famous landmarks at their own pace. The game’s photo mode and the availability to unlock several Spidey suits made swinging around the city an enjoyable experience on its own. What’s more impressive is that Spider-Man was able to achieve and break all these records, despite being released exclusively to the PlayStation 4, which is a clear reflection of the popularity of the Marvel brand and the insane player-base of the PS4.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is available now on PS4.
