When the PlayStation Network suffered a data breach due to hackers, Sony was initially very quiet about what exactly had occurred. In the last few days, Sony has done an about face, and has been making an improved effort to communicate with its customers.

With Sony's PSN network being rebuilt to better protect users information, many users have wondered how this process could affect their trophies, PlayStation Plus cloud saves, and their friends list. Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, Patrick Seybold posted another Q & A to the Official PlayStation blog to address these issues:

Q: Will our download history/friends list/settings be affected by the PSN downtime?

A: No, they will not.

Q: Will trophies that were earned in single-player offline games during the outage be intact when the service resumes?

A: These trophies are intact and will be re-synched when the network is once again operational.

Q: Will my PS+ cloud saves be retrievable?

A: Yes, once PSN is restored.

This is definitely good news for gamers and Sony as the loss of these features would have certainly caused a lot of outrage among the PSN community. Seybold also addressed whether those subscribers of DC Universe Online and Free Realms would receive any compensation for the unavailability of these titles:

A: From Sony Online Entertainment: “We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums.”

Lastly, one of the more divisive issues amongst users is whether Sony will offer any compensation for the PSN outage. Seybold doesn't get into specifics, but it appears that PSN account holders will receive something for their inconvenience:

Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven’t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?

A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.

Sony has not yet commented as to whether it will be voluntarily offering any additional compensation for the recent loss of personal identification information. The gaming giant may wish to consider some sort of remediation program in order to head off the current class-action lawsuit filed in California and other possible government investigations.

PS3 owners, are you relieved to hear that your PSN settings will return intact? What do you think is fair compensation for the time period that PSN was unavailable?
