Jet Set Radio launches on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this week (PlayStation Plus subscribers have had access since September 10th), and even more HD re-releases of classic Sega console games are on the way. Announced in July (but not dated), both Sonic Adventure 2 and NiGHTS Into Dreams will be made available for download less than one month from today.
Ever since the release of Sonic Adventure on XBLA and PSN two full years ago, fans have been waiting for Sonic Adventure 2 to get its own HD update. That wait is nearly at an end. On October 2nd, PlayStation 3 owners will finally get their chance to play through Sonic’s second (and final) Dreamcast outing. Xbox 360 owners will have to hold out until the 5th.
Priced at $9.99/800 Microsoft Points, Sonic Adventure 2 will also be the recipient of a DLC pack. For another $3.00/240 Microsoft Points, players can download the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Mode DLC, which – like the Director’s Cut DLC for the original Sonic Adventure – is comprised of bonuses from the GameCube version of the game, including extra maps and more playable characters.
The same day that Sonic Adventure 2 makes its XBLA/PSN debut (and at the same price), Sega will release NiGHTS Into Dreams. One of the most beloved of Sega’s Saturn games, NiGHTS Into Dreams flies onto Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with remastered widescreen graphics, in addition to a “Saturn Mode” that straight-up recreates the visuals from the game’s original incarnation. Even better, Sega is making Christmas NiGHTS – the rare, holiday-themed NiGHTS expansion – available to players who buy the new Sega Heritage version of NiGHTS, and unlike Sonic Adventure 2′s Battle Mode DLC, Christmas NiGHTS will be completely free.
As with Jet Set Radio, both NiGHTS and Sonic Adventure 2 will also include interviews with their respective developers, along with the expected support for leaderboards, achievements and trophies.
What’s next for the Sega HD re-release machine? Both Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia have been rumored, but neither has been officially confirmed – yet. What classic Sega game would you like to see join the Sega Heritage lineup? Panzer Dragoon Saga? Phantasy Star Online? Let us know in the comments below.
Sonic Adventure 2 and NiGHTS Into Dreams release October 2nd on PSN, October 5th on XBLA.

They announced that Sonic Adventure 2 was coming out back in July. I’ve had my calendar marked since then. Where have you guys been? Old news.
Yep – as I say right at the beginning of the post, SA2 for XBLA/PSN was announced in July. Specific dates, though, just hit today.
Ah, okay, my mistake. I guess I overlooked that part.
Shenmue! I want Shenmue! Played a bit of JSR last week after I downloaded it. Good times! Looking forward to Nights! but I would LOVE to play Shenmue again.
I miss my DC… I think it’s in a box somewhere… Just don’t want to have a dozen boxes out!
Power Stone 2!!!!!
Never played Sonic Adventure 2. Loved the first one though, it proved that the game could escape the trappings of 2D but still remain faithful to the franchise elements.
I’d love them to have a 3DS re-release.
If you’ve never played SA2, but you loved the first one, after playing SA2, you’ll see how horrible the first one really was. If Sonic Adventure 2, as a platformer, could still hold up in today’s generation, just by the amount of content and replayability alone.
Hope they will release toy comander on xbla
