Three new screenshots illustrate the crazy enemy types in Aliens: Colonial Marines and also delve into some of the experiences that the player may encounter throughout the campaign. With another influx of images, Gearbox Software doesn’t want fans to forget the game will be delivered to them sometime in the spring of 2012.
Gearbox Software wants to ensure that Aliens: Colonial Marines is the shooter experience expected by fans of the franchise and they’re on the road to success so far. This 11-minute gameplay trailer, narrated by Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, is still a relatively early build of the game. When compared against these latest screenshots, there is a pretty noticeable difference in graphics quality, which is definitely a step in the right direction. Although, it would be just as effective as seeing another gameplay or trailer.
Contrary to the other screenshots Gearbox released, these images focus some more on the iconic parts of the Aliens film, namely the Smart Gun, being huddled around a motion tracker, and, of course, defending a position against a horde of murderous Xenomorphs. Witness them below.
Always good to see the Smart Gun still looking the same way it did in the film, which was just a jerry-rigged Steadicam system with a machine gun attached to it. Some of the textures look a bit underwhelming, specifically the interior designs, but character models look like they have received some care and investment. The developer has gone on record and said they are doing all they can to preserve the canon of the story and the setting and they still have a few months left to make sure the game is everything they want it to be.
Overall, Gearbox has been mum regarding details of actual gameplay mechanics, other than citing the fact that the game will be “accessible”, which might cause some hardcore shooter fans to become worried if the mechanics might end up getting dumbed down. Will this affect your desire to play the game?
Aliens: Colonial Marines is releasing in Spring 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
