Bethesda finally shows its hand, as the publisher announces at E3 2016 that Skyrim will be getting a Special Edition relaunch on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is still one of the most popular RPGs in the world years after its release. Skyrim is one of the biggest games ever made, and its mix of magic and dragons with the freedom to put buckets on shopkeeper's heads and hoard every tomato in the world in a player's inventory has appealed to an incredibly diverse fanbase. Those who wanted to play the game on a new console, however, have been forced to make due with the knowledge that backward compatible Skyrim was likely the best it would ever get.

Recently, however, rumors have begun to surface about a Skyrim Definitive Edition that could spell a remaster for the erstwhile fan favorite. Those hoping for a cutting edge, modern look at a world that has already become a legendary piece of gaming's history had their prayers answered during Bethesda's E3 2016 presentation, however - Skyrim: Special Edition is coming to PS4 and Xbox One consoles in the near future.

Details are scarce right now about what the Special Edition will offer gamers outside of the obvious graphical upgrade, but the visuals from the trailer alone are likely enough to get fans to bite at the second offering of Skyrim. Bethesda's trailer showed off the massive difference between the PS3/Xbox 360 graphics and the new and improved PS4/Xbox One aesthetic upgrades, and Skyrim: Special Edition might as well be an entirely new game from a visual standpoint.

Rumors about a Skyrim remaster being announced at E3 likely made their way all the way back to Bethesda's staff, as the trailer itself followed a video that detailed another Elder Scrolls title in Elder Scrolls: Legends. That being said, Skyrim is such a big game in its own right that it's likely Bethesda didn't feel the need to hype it up on its own, realizing that the announcement itself would be all gamers needed to get hyped about another look at the beautiful world of Skyrim.

Bethesda's E3 2016 presentation has been heavily influenced by The Elder Scrolls content so far. With presentations about Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls: Legends, and The Elder Scrolls: Online already, it's becoming clearer by the minute that Bethesda believes The Elder Scrolls is one of its most important IPs, and something that can be popular in multiple forms.
