There are very few games as big as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Originally released in 2011, Skyrim has spent the last ten years being widely regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time, with its limitless variety of gameplay options and its expansive world-building that rivals many popular fantasy franchises.
Skyrim takes place 200 years after the events of the previous Elder Scrolls game, Oblivion, and sees the player take the role of Dovahkiin, the legendary Dragonborn, that is tasked with slaying the accent dragons across the continent of Skyrim. While the basic premise of Skyrim revolves around the mission to defeat legions of dragons, there are a plethora of side-quests that allow players to experience the world of Skyrim in whichever way they see fit.
One aspect of Skyrim that has made the experience with the game quite memorable among players is the intense amount of support for mods. Much like many other games published by Bethesda such as the Fallout series, the PC version of Skyrim has received various mods over the years that have both improved minor quality of life aspects of the game, like the models of the different NPCs in Skyrim, to making drastic changes that turn the game into something entirely different. But then there are mods that are very subtle and don’t drastically change how the game is played, but add for an even more fun experience.
In a post on Reddit’s r/skyrim, user wtfamidoinglol42 showcased a small mod that they added to Skyrim that changes the text on the various loading screens. Typically, the text in the loading screens is used to give players valuable information regarding gameplay and the world building in order to fully immerse players, and also gives great tips on how to play the game. However, this mod changes the game to add a slightly more sarcastic edge to the text.
This is a very funny mod that offers a bit of extra levity to Skyrim, which at times can have material that is very harrowing and bleak. This isn’t the first time that the game has had funny moments associated with the game, with the infamous arrow to the knee line becoming very prominent in meme culture, making it funnier when a Skyrim adventurer had the moment happen to them.
The modding community has helped Skyrim’s longevity, and with The Elder Scrolls 6 rumored to be launching within the next few years or so, players hope that the long-awaited follow-up will be able to fill the shoes left by this title.
